Have you ever wanted to attend Oxford? Me too! And I did just that in the summer of 2015 when I took a week-long course as part of The Oxford Experience. I brought my very own "Jane" with me. The course was called "Jane Austen's People In Their Places--Northanger Abbey and Mansfield Park". No homework! (other than reading the books). No papers! No final! This was Oxford-lite and short, and it was fun.
The Oxford Experience The Oxford Experience, a six-week program with each course lasting just one week. There are 12 different courses held per week. The program is held each summer at Christ Church College in Oxford, England. It caters to people who want to learn, enjoy the history-steeped area, and play at being an Oxford student. Classes are held in Christ Church College with meals in the fabulous Hall. I stayed in a dorm room at Christ Church. Mornings we met for classes. In the afternoon we hit the library and studied--not really--we went on field trips including a visit to Chawton and Winchester. Among the 10 students in my course were people from Denmark, Spain, Japan, Germany, and San Diego. On our last evening we were treated to a formal dinner in the The Hall. I met wonderful people, contemplated the history of the school, and looked for murderers (well, maybe I watch too much Endeavor, Inspector Morse, and Midsomer Murders).
If you, too, want to casually throw around the phrase, "when I was up at Oxford", The Oxford Experience might be for you. For more about The Oxford Experience, click here for their website. The courses for 2018 are already listed here.
